On not being where one wants to be

Brutal truth: The reason you're not where you want to be isn't talent, resources, or connections. It's that you've spent years perfecting the art of almost starting. Almost is the most expensive word in the English language.

I am where I want to be. Where I always wanted to be, ever since October 2006, when I started on this journey. Back in 1991 or 2002, I wanted more than that, but it proved to be unrealistic, and not for the lack of trying or "starting". Decades have passed, and the problems I wanted to solve back then are still wide open. Nobody was able to surpass the very limited progress I managed to make back then. If I were able to solve those problems, my situation might be a bit more comfortable now, but even that is doubtful. On the other hand, the long-term aims of 2006-09 are largely achieved, which is a big success. That back in 2006 I might have expected such a success to make me more happy than I am now is just the usual story.
