Надежда дожить до демократии в России сомнительна, но может быть, до демократии в Белоруссии доживу.
As a matter of personal policy, I do not do any reviews for journals which wouldn't publish my own work. In September 2011, my paper "Artin-Tate motivic sheaves with finite coefficients over a smooth variety", submitted in December 2010, was rejected by Advances in Mathematics. A one-page referee's report attached to the rejection letter stated that my paper was "clear and original" but "not yet ready for publication in Advances in Mathematics".

Since then, I am not considering requests for review coming from Advances in Mathematics. The explanation is that I neither understand nor believe in the "high standards you try to maintain for publication in Advances in Mathematics". In my humble view, your high standards consist (as a general rule) in publishing mediocre papers while rejecting outstanding ones. I do not want to be a part of such an editorial process. I am not even qualified to do so: I do not know and do not want to know what the currently prevailing standards of fashionable mediocrity may consist in.
