Nov. 22nd, 2023

As a matter of personal policy, I do not do any reviews for journals that would not publish my own work.

Back on August 3, 2009, I submitted my paper titled "Two kinds of derived categories, Koszul duality, and comodule-contramodule correspondence" to Duke Math. Journal. On August 31, 2009, I received a rejection letter from <...>, which read as follows:

Dear Professor Positselski,

Regrettably, we will not be able to accept your submission "Two kinds of derived categories, Koszul duality, and comodule-contramodule correspondence", to the Duke Mathematical Journal. Your interesting paper should certainly be published, but we receive many excellent submissions at Duke and must make some difficult choices. We enclose some comments below.

Good luck with your manuscript, and thank you for your interest in the Duke Journal.

Sincerely,
<...>

A short paragraph from a reviewer's opinion was attached to this rejection letter.

Subsequently, on October 6, 2011, I submitted my paper titled "Coherent analogues of matrix factorizations and relative singularity categories" to Duke Math. Journal. On November 22, 2011, I received a rejection letter from <...>, which read as follows:

No quotation or excerpt from reviewers's opinions was attached to this rejection letter.

Now it is November 2023, and all I can say is that the paper by <...> submitted to your journal should certainly be peer reviewed. But here at my desk, I have many interesting projects and ideas to work on, and I must make some choices. After your journal rejected my papers, I no longer consider doing any peer reviews for your journal as a project worthy of my attention.

Sincerely,
Leonid Positselski
