But the real answer to the remark above is that, in a worldview where there is an important problem of "sexism", there is no place for mathematical problems. These are elements of incompatible worldviews. That they merrily coexist in the heads of many people is of no consequence, of course (as the ability to hold to two incompatible ideas at the same time is only human).
The plurality of perspectives on the evaluation of 2+2 must reflect a decisive rejection of the cis-normative answer 4, which is imposed by the oppressive white male dominant discourse.
An interest in mathematics, or more generally in exact or natural sciences, is an interest in matters unrelated to one's own existence. People whose most important concern is with their own "race, class, culture, language, and gender" cannot be expected to be interested in mathematics, and aren't.
